A new Battlefield 2042 event introduces a long-requested mode to the multiplayer FPS as a limited-time event, and you can join at a big discount. The EA shooter has struggled to live up to the high bar of some of the series’ most beloved entries, yet there’s still something special to its brand of large-scale conflict. If you’ve been tempted to give it a go, a heavy Steam sale discount lets you grab the most recent Battlefield game for next to nothing.
The Battlefield 2042 hardcore mode might be a little late in coming – and it’s only staying around for one month, running until just Tuesday November 26 – but that’s better than nothing. It brings the high-stakes format popular in many of the best FPS games to the Conquest, Rush, and Breakthrough modes. Part of the now ongoing Battlefield 2042 Circle of Hell event, hardcore mode strips back the HUD and charges up the stakes.
Weapons are more lethal, with each of the classic loadouts at your disposal offering a primary weapon dedicated to your chosen class. Vehicles will also deal more damage, but they’ll have additional weak points, so well-placed shots will be especially rewarded. Pitched as a “horror-themed mode,” you’ll have to keep your wits about you at all times to have any hope of staying alive.
Along with the Circle of Hell comes a new event pass, which offers 30 tiers of rewards – 15 free and 15 premium. I’ve certainly enjoyed my time with hardcore modes in the past, so it might make for a good excuse to check in with Battlefield 2042. If you’re curious to do so, the good news is that a whopping 92% Steam sale discount means you can do so for next to nothing.
Battlefield 2042 is on sale until Monday November 11 with a 92% saving, meaning you’ll pay just $4.79 / £3.99 for your copy. Grab it here if you’re tempted to check out the new mode, or just want to give the most recent instalment in EA’s series a try while it’s going cheap.
If you’re after more, here are the best multiplayer games right now, along with the best war games, to give you plenty of choice.
