Nepo pets are becoming the next big thing in the world of fame with cats, dogs and other furry companions of stars rising to the top on Instagram and other social media sites just because of their owner’s celebrity status.
We’ve all heard of Nepo babies, (in fact a while ago we talked about them) – celebrity offspring that manage to make their mark in the fame world, without seemingly lifting a finger. But now, theres a new generation in town: welcome to the stage, the Nepo pets!
Since 2022, and thanks to a growing social media landscape, there has been a budding fixation and obsession with stars who thrive in similar careers to their parents thanks to the steps already trodden by their parents in the world of stardom. This world of nepotism has generated both admiration and criticism – the term itself is used both glowingly and disparagingly.
Nepo pets earning more from social media than average UK salary
Those who criticize the concept of Nepo babies may or not be glad to know that they are now being substituted by Nepo Pets with even more account followings and earnings from sponsored posts than the average British salary-earner. Experts at Slingo have revealed that these VIP pets are raking it in from their top-notch Instagram pages and flashy photos.
Some of the top pets include Kylie Jenner’s greyhounds or Megan Thee Stallion’s French bulldog. This canine cutie earns himself a massive £5,436 (€6,490) per post. Just consider how this compares to the average weekly wage of a 30-39 year-old at £769. That’s right, the pets are pulling a fast one with their owners donning up their social media pages for those extra bucks.
Some other famous faces and high-earners on Instagram include:
- George H.W. Bush’s dog Sully – @sullyhwbush – £2,253 per post
- Paris Hilton’s multiple pets – @hiltonpets – £1,032 per post
- Miley Cyrus’ cat Shanti – @shantiombb – £843 per post
- Lily Collins’ dog Redford – @redforddog – £765 per post
Celebrity Nepo dogs seem to be ruling the roost on Instagram. One silver lining for dog lovers: they seem to outweigh the cats online. Dogs today are living lifestyles that would make their wolverine ancestors howl. Of course, not only is it the Nepo dogs making names for themselves but their cute clothes and accessories, which boost Instagram views and likes to the thousands. The pet fashion market is set to skyrocket to nearly $9 billion by 2032, especially in the world of high fashion brands.
Famous pets around since the 1920’s but don’t compare to Nepo Pets
Famous pets are no real novelty despite their catchy “Nepo pet” name tag. There have been animals in Hollywood for years, starting from the 1920’s and 30’s with Rin Tin Tin, a celebrity German Shepherd and Lassie from the 1940’s.
However, today with the rise of social media, these Nepo pets are reaching a whole new level of fame, endorsing products, industries and shaping trends – something that up to now has only been the job of their famous humans owners.
